The Math Coordinator works with the Grammar School Director, Assistant Director, Grade-Level Coordinators, Classroom Teachers, Math Specialists, and other colleagues to ensure that the Grammar School Math curriculum is well suited to the CGPS community and meets best practices in math learning. The Math Coordinator position is a full time position charged with supporting all PK to 4th grade classroom teachers. This person will provide essential leadership in developing and maintaining an excellent mathematical program for all of the students and teachers at Columbia Grammar. The Coordinator will focus on enhancing teachers’ ability to provide instruction that builds students’ sense of engagement in the ownership of learning.


Maintain and Share Professional Expertise

  • Keep current on new developments in mathematics learning and act as a resource to the CGPS community

  • Lead conversations with faculty, administrators and parents about curricular and pedagogical enhancements, including instructional best practices, assessments and learning trajectories.


Oversee Curriculum


  • Work with faculty to define and document learning outcomes by designing assessments using those to track student progress

  • Collaborate with the Grammar School Director to develop a coherent, rich, sound K-2 math curriculum, enhancing the scope and sequence currently in place

  • Review and oversee the Grammar School math curriculum,  monitor continuity across grade levels, in partnership with the other math teachers

  • Examine and articulate the vertical progression of mathematical ideas and skills from grades PK to 4  ensuring consistency, continuity, and coherence within and across grade-levels


  • Support math curriculum integration in other content areas where meaningful

  • Liaise with the Middle school math department to ensure that students transition seamlessly in their mathematics learning from Grammar School to Middle School


Lead Faculty Development

  • Collaborate with Grammar School teachers in unit and lesson planning in order to encourage using best practices and differentiation in the area of mathematics instruction.

  • Lead professional development in collaboration with Head of Grammar School for Curriculum Development and Documentation

  • Mentor and coach Grammar School faculty, ensuring strong mathematical learning and instruction

  • Support differentiated mathematics instruction in all classrooms


Monitor and Assess Student Learning

  • Assess student progress and maintain records

  • Observe students at the request of the faculty and help to identify students in need to additional learning support

  • Participate on evaluation teams; Research, teach, and model best practices for all learners



  • Evidence of expertise in contemporary mathematics pedagogy

  • Advanced degree in mathematics teaching or mathematics leadership strongly preferred

  • At least three years of experience in teaching PK to 4th grade learners

  • Strong communication skills
