About Our Camp

This division of Columbia Grammar Summer Camp provides a warm and nurturing environment for younger and first time campers. Campers engage in a wide variety of age-appropriate activities throughout the day. All groups are led by Columbia Grammar teachers.

Each week includes a special theme and activities are planned to highlight each theme.  Past theme weeks have included Under the Sea, Favorite Characters, and Stars and Stripes.

Early-childhood classrooms are air-conditioned and well equipped with centers for block building, arts and crafts, dramatic play, and reading.

Our unique outdoor play yards are surfaced with a specialized rubber cushioning for safety and equipped with splash pools, sprinklers, climbing equipment, basketball hoops, tricycles, and large building blocks. Other facilities include a gymnasium, 60-foot indoor heated swimming pool, art room, recreation center and lunch rooms.

Daily Schedule

Camp hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. A typical camper’s day may include free choice centers, yard, arts & crafts, and a swim period, followed by lunch, afteroon gym games and sprinkler time. We pride ourselves on spending much of the day outdoors in swimsuits and offer plenty of time for free play.

Children bring lunches from home, and the camp provides two nut-free snacks daily.

Campers have the opportunity to swim daily in our indoor, heated pool. Qualified swim instructors lead instructional and free swim in a small-group setting. In addition, a lifeguard is always on duty when children are swimming.

Other Activities

Children attend arts and crafts three times a week in a grammar school art studio.  Projects may include fabric design, collage work,  jewelry making, and cooking.

Gym games are another popular activity at camp and include cooperative team games and sporting activities.

In the homerooms, we provide the campers with opportunities for free play and choice time. Choices may include puzzles, drawing, block building, Legos, and dramatic play.
