CGPS Theater Students Visit Ben Schnetzer ‘08, Currently Starring on Broadway in The Nap

By Sarah Cusick, Theater Department Head

On October 16, a group of seniors and members of the theater, dance and film department faculty took a trip to Broadway to see CGPS alumnus Ben Schnetzer ‘08 star in The NapThe Nap is a fast-paced comedy-thriller about the world of British snooker (a billiards game). The Nap, which marks Ben's Broadway debut, is garnering terrific reviews.

While at CGPS, Ben starred in multiple plays including The Matchmaker, The Laramie Project, and Pride and Prejudice. After graduating in 2008, Ben pursued his acting studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He has already had quite a successful career, especially in film, appearing in WarcraftSnowden and Goat (with Nick Jonas and fellow CGPS alumnus Gus Halper '10). Ben has also shown versatility and a mastery of dialects as a German-Jewish fugitive in the film The Book Thief, as a snobbish Anglo-Greek student in The Riot Club and as the Northern Irish gay activist Mark Ashton in Pride. He will soon be appearing opposite Natalie Portman in the upcoming film The Death and Life of John F. Donovan.

After the show, Ben met with our students and faculty to discuss his experience, even introducing students to his fellow actors from the cast. Some of our seniors are currently applying to college to pursue theater studies and Ben had invaluable advice about the process. The students were rapt as they soaked up his positive energy and professional perspective.

Stay tuned for updates about the seniors’ evening of performances on December 20th at 7 p.m. at the CGPS Theatre.
